Who we are
1986SextonBigReds.com is the Class of 1986 alumni community website — independently maintained by volunteer classmates from J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. It is not the official website of J.W. Sexton High School or the Lansing School District, and no information you share here goes to the school or district.
What we collect, and why
Everything this site collects, you type into a form on purpose. We collect:
- Email list signups — first name, last name, name at graduation, email address, city and state, classmate or family/friend status, and your consent to receive class communication. Used only to send class news, reunion announcements, and memorial notices.
- Class information updates — the same kinds of contact details, used to keep the private class database current.
- Submissions — memorials, memories, cause nominations, votes, volunteer signups, job and Exchange listings, scholarship interest, and contact messages, each containing what the form asks for.
This site does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics scripts.
Where your information lives
Form submissions are collected through Jotform and the email list through Systeme.io, and stored in a private class database (Airtable) maintained by volunteers, with periodic private backups. These services process your data to provide their functions; none of them are permitted to use class data for their own marketing.
What is never made public
- There is no public class directory on this site.
- Your email address and phone number are never displayed without your explicit consent.
- Subscriber information is never displayed, shared, or sold.
- Exchange listings show a general area only — never a home address.
- Memorial pages never include cause of death.
Review before publication
Every public-facing submission — memorials, memories, listings, and nominations — is reviewed by class volunteers before it appears on the site. Nothing you submit is published automatically.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the email list at any time using the link in any class email.
- Ask to see, correct, or delete information we hold about you via the contact form.
- Request removal or correction of a published memorial or listing the same way.
Links to other sites
Where this site links to external sites (like official school pages or published obituaries), those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don’t control.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change — for example, if privacy-respecting analytics is ever added — this page will be updated first, with a new effective date.
